about

This album has been a long time coming. The tracks weave a deeply personal abstract journey through Elias Foley's recent history. Both personal and political, both provincial and global. This album is haunted by billion gallon black ghosts choking our oceans, and an inland sea full of the dead. Let's break down the tracks:

NPHADP: This track is made from 2 sources. One is Elias cleaning up shattered safety glass after his wife's hair salon was broken into 2 weeks after opening. The other is the bass and sub bass frequencies produced by recording cars driving over the St. Johns Bridge in Portland, Oregon, USA from the park underneath (known as Cathedral Park). Elias and his second son frequented this park during the first few years of his sons life.

Holy Redeemer: A piano composition sequestered to oblivion until now blended with processed field recordings of the church bells of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon USA.

Blood Bank: A huge underwater machine, massive sonar echos. The last part is a looped audio sample of bass from a tricked-out, very Latino styled, large American sedan, with the foreground noise of an Indigenous Mexican immigrant mom and child. It IS a journey of harsh and experimental sounds, angry and massive! It's the feeling of being trapped underwater for too long under a massive machine, coming to the surface for a bit before being dragged back with the undertow and rhythmic sludge. Elias remembers reeling at the idea of the quantity of oil that geysered into the ocean during the Deep Hater Horizon event. The audio sample at the beginning is a man from New Orleans talking about the oil company being in tight with the political-elite shot-callers and being allowed to self regulate of their own compensation, safety, and capacity standards (easily subverted by the profit motive).

Lucky Park Swimming Pool 29 Palms, California comes from the high desert in California. On a hot day in the midst of a honeymoon with a baby on the way (that baby is now 8 years old).
